Duane Cory, our Senior Pastor, and his wife Holly are transplants from the Midwest. They fell in love in college and spent their early married years together doing graduate studies and all kinds of fun things in the waters surrounding south Florida. In 1987 they moved to Colorado to start this church. They’ve raised a family of four children, nearly all adults now, so they know something about the deep joys and steep challenges of parenting. Both love the outdoors, this church and, yes, after 27 years together they still love each other. Holly teaches sixth grade and Duane has been a student of pastoring for 23 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Covenant College and his Master of Divinity from Westminster Seminary.
Steve Sage is our Associate Pastor of Adult Ministries. He and his wife, Carissa, met as undergrads at Kansas State University. Steve claims Carissa changed her major so she could study with him. They married on the day Steve graduated from college: he’d do it that way again... she wouldn’t! After graduation they spent 7 years in Orlando, Florida, where Steve worked full-time and completed seminary. Their next move was to Denver to help start a new church, and after completing that task, they moved across town to join the ministry at Deer Creek. Steve loves sports, the outdoors, and strategy games. They have three children: Brendan, Caden, and Sydney. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and his Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary.
Didi Wong is our Assistant Pastor of Student and Family Ministries. He was born in Hong Kong, and grew up in that diverse international community where he came to know and follow Jesus at 16. He came to America to attend college and earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland College Park as a proud Terrapin (its like a turtle in case you’ve never heard of one!). After doing youth ministry at the church where he became a Christian, Didi went on to get his Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary Orlando. This Terrapin met his wife Amber, a rival Duke Blue Devil, watching an ACC men’s basketball tournament game between Maryland and Duke. Despite the incredible odds against them, Didi fell in love with this Blue Devil through the power of God and true love! Amber graduated with her Masters of Counseling from RTS Orlando and plans to practice in the Denver area. Didi loves playing sports and video games, reading comic books, talking over Frappuchinos at Starbucks, and watching movies in his free time. Good thing he feels called by God to hang out with teens and help them follow Jesus! Amber and Didi also just welcomed their first child into their lives. Elijah Jackson is now their favorite pastime!
Gabe Kossol is our Director of Worship Ministries. He and his wife, Krista, met in California and are newly married. They married on the hottest day of the year; it was 116 degrees. Gabe graduated from Colorado Christian University with a degree in Youth Ministry and a minor in Leadership. Gabe loves to be outdoors and looks forward, daily, to going on his annual elk hunt. He has a passion for worship and loves exploring different avenues of worshipping God. They have no kids right now, but most definitely want some in the future.
Verleen Didier, our IMPACT Director (of Children’s Ministries), grew up in Canada. She has obtained her Master of Education from the University of Arkansas and has coached volleyball at the collegiate level. After spending their first year of marriage in the Chicago area, David and Verleen moved to Littleton, Colorado, in 1991. They have been involved at Deer Creek since 1993. Along with their children Erin, Josiah and Alyssa, they enjoy a variety of sports and traveling.
Christy Diamond keeps all of our staff in line and the church functioning as our Administrative Assistant. She grew up as a Pennsylvania farm girl and moved to Colorado to attend CSU, where she graduated with a BS in Zoology & Animal Behavior. She worked in medical research for 10 years (loved it!) and even has some of her research displayed in the Smithsonian (ask her about dissecting mosquitoes). She and husband, Ken, have been married for 18 years and run a successful family business. They have three children who are active in sports. Christy enjoys hiking, the outdoors, her garden, and a good mystery. One of her favorite things to do is sit on her porch swing early in the morning, listening to the birds sing and smelling the new blooms of springtime flowers... times when she has her best conversations with God.
Linda Cunningham, Director of Women’s Ministries, has attended DCC since its inception in 1988. After serving in various ministries over the years, she began coordinating the Women’s Ministries in 2004. Linda and her husband, David, met in high school in Atlanta and married at the ripe old age of 18! They moved to Colorado in 1981 to be near Linda’s family. Linda worked as a secretary for 12 years, then stayed home with her children for 10 years, and now works at Stony Creek Elementary in a kindergarten class in addition to her work with the church. Linda attributes her “spiritual awakening” to the challenges and blessings of their first child, Melissa, who was born with a brain disease and lived 10 years. Finding “completeness and joy” in the Lord during these years was life-challenging. David and Linda now enjoy three healthy and beautiful children, Bryan, Stacie and Emily.
Cara Gabrielse, Director of Local Missions, has been a part of the DCC family since 1995. She has been involved various mercy ministries at DCC, served as a teacher in the Children’s Learning Center, and has been actively involved in the Women’s Ministry. She began serving on the Missions Team several years ago, chairing the Local Outreach committee and coordinating DCC’s annual Missions Banquet. She volunteers regularly with many inner-city ministries and is passionate about helping others use their God-given talents to serve others in practical ways. Cara and her husband, Brad, were married on July 4th, 1991 and have three children: Emily, Jack, and Lucy. After enjoying a 20-year career in the mortgage business, she “retired” to stay home full time when her youngest was born in 2000. She loves to ride her bike, cook, and entertain friends.
Suzy Eitzen, our Director of Global Missions, began attending DCC in 2007 when she and her family returned to the States after serving as
missionaries in Germany for eight years. Suzy’s and Dwight’s
relationship began in Europe in 1987, and God has grown their burden
for the lost through several terms of overseas service in the past 20
years. Suzy loves to cook, host friends, travel, and hang out with
their two kids. A recovering couch potato, she also teaches several
kickboxing classes each week; evidence of God’s transformational work
and His sense of humor.
