Stewardship Concept & Motivation

We believe that following Jesus involves dedicating our entire lives to him and service to his kingdom in response to his love and grace to us. This is much more than merely attending a worship service; it is an entire way of life that is shaped by the vision and values of God’s kingdom in response to the gospel.

This includes devoting our entire lives to him (Romans 12:1-2), using our talents and spiritual gifts in his service (1 Peter 4:10), passing on the gospel message we have received to others (1 Corinthians 4:1-2), and using the financial resources God has given us to support the kingdom of God (2 Corinthians 8-9).  As Christians, we are caretakers of God’s gifts and truth for the sake of others.

In light of this, we offer a regular “Spiritual Gifts Workshop” to help DCC people to understand how God has uniquely wired them to serve others.

It is also the motivation for the bizarre practice (from the perspective of non-Christians) of giving away our money. For a Christ-follower, though, this is not coerced, but flows from our experience of God’s grace. When encouraging early Christians to give voluntarily and generously for kingdom purposes, the Apostle Paul explained this grace-inspired motivation in this way:

“I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love… For you know the
grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor,
so that you through his poverty might become rich.”  (2 Corinthians 8:8-9)

Quite simply, an experience of God’s generosity for us produces generosity in us and orients us to invest in efforts that bless others and support the kingdom of God.
