Deer Creek Kids exists to partner with families to disciple children and help them take next steps in their faith.
One of the ways we encourage children to take a next step in faith this is through Communicants Class. Communicants Class is a 12-week study for 4th and 5th grade students that meets during second service. Our hope is that your children will have a space to ask challenging questions, explore what the bible teaches, and prepare to make a profession of faith in order to take their first communion.
Who should participate in Communicants Class?
We invite all 4th and 5th grade students to participate in Communicants Class, especially if they have not publicly professed faith in Jesus, participated in communion, or been baptized. The bible reminds us that the sacrament of communion is given to us to grow our faith. Therefore, everyone who takes communion should first publicly profess their faith in Jesus and be baptized.
Following the completion of Communicants Class, youth will have the opportunity to do an interview with a DCC elder and make a profession of faith to become full members of DCC!
Who leads Communicants Class?
Communicants Class is led primarily by two of our elders, Pastor Daniel Nealon and Demian Klausing.
What do you cover in Communicants Class?
Communicants Class covers the basics beliefs of Christianity – The Apostles Creed, 10 Commandments, Lord’s Prayer, and Sacraments. Each participant will receive a copy of the Deer Creek Catechism (a question-and-answer tool that covers these basic beliefs in greater detail). Each week we will discuss one chapter of the Deer Creek Catechism, explore a related bible passage, watch a brief “tough questions” video, and close with discussion.
