Skill Requirements & Audition Standards

for the Worship Team

Please read the following basic skill requirements before filling out the application below.

You will need to honestly assess your skill level before submitting this application.

Skills Requirements & Audition Standards

All musical team members must be able to:
1. Read chord charts /sheet music/lead sheets
2. Properly tune their instruments
3. Have a basic understanding of music theory
4. Play/Sing with a click (metronome)
5. Play in different time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 6/8, etc…) in a variety of patterns
6. Play dynamically (soft, medium, loud)
7. Play/sing in pitch
8. Follow the direction of the leader’s interpretation of the song through improvisation.
9. Play/sing in front of other people (with confident stage presence)
10. Not play/sing if a song requires it, or if asked by the team leader
11. Confidently use in-ears and communicate what you need to hear (training available if no previous experience)
12. Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and make changes on the fly as arrangements of songs and worship plans can change at a fast pace (What you practice on your own may not always be what is finally decided on)
13. Demonstrate the ability to keep up in a fast pace, ever-changing environment

Stringed-instrument players must be able to:
1. Know the names of strings
2. Demonstrate a high level of dedication to keep your instrument in tune and play in tune with excellent intonation
3. Have a basic understanding of fret-board
4. Know and play all major and minor chords and scales
5. Properly utilize capo (guitar only)
6. Electric Guitarist must send a picture of their pedal board to aaron@deercreekchurch.com and understand signal flow.
7. Electric players must know how to play in different voicings (1st, 2nd, and 3rd position) and be comfortable playing with another electric guitarist.
8. Hear and learn their instrument’s parts as to the recordings provided
9. Be flexible

Vocalists must be able to:
1. Hear and be taught parts (sing harmony and melody)
2. Blend with and adapt their vocal style to a team of vocalists
3. Confidently sing into a microphone in front of others
4. Show proper use of vibrato in a contemporary worship context
5. Confidently use in-ears and communicate what you need to hear
6. Demonstrate a strong, confident and dynamic stage presence
7. Hear and learn their vocal parts as to the recordings provided
8. Be flexible

Drums/Percussion must be able to:
1. Play confidently with a click track/metronome
2. Play with control
3. Demonstrate the ability to play the style of music that is planned by worship leader (i.e. don’t show up with a double bass pedal if a double bass pedal is not on the recordings provided)
3. Follow team leader’s direction during songs (continue, builds, etc.)
4. Properly utilize various types of sticks
5. Tasteful and confident on percussion
6.  Learn how to operate Ableton Live to run click tracks
8. Hear and learn the drum parts as to the recordings provided
7.  Be flexible

Keys/Piano must be able to: 
1. Be comfortable and confident on Organ, Piano, Keyboard, and Synth.
2. General understanding of chord inversions and lead piano/synth lines.
3. Learn how to operate a Nord to achieve any sounds desired by the team leader
4. Learn how to operate Ableton Live and Mainstage to run click tracks and keyboard patches
5. Hear and learn the keyboard parts as to the recordings provided
6. Be flexible
